One place where we find IPAM lacking is the ability to track a VLAN with no IPs tied to it. I know that an IP Address Manager should track IPs but we have scenarios where we assign out Layer 2 VLANs with no IP tracking (cluster environments etc). I have to maintain a separate spreadsheet to track these VLANs that I can't track in IPAM. Often times we have to scramble to redesing networks if someone forgot to check the master spreasheet and they tried to use a VLAN that is already used for SQL or Exchange clustering.
